About NCED
The National Catastrophe and ESG Dataset provides a unified data foundation for climate and ESG risk analysis across the Australian economy.
About NCED
The National Catastrophe & ESG Dataset (NCED) is a strategic collaboration between Equifax and mnAi, created to help organisations better understand the environmental, operational, commercial, and structural risks that exist across the Australian economy.
Developed in response to the rapidly growing need for scalable climate, ESG, and catastrophe intelligence, NCED brings together Equifax's market-leading commercial coverage with mnAi's advanced technology, data engineering, and analytical capabilities to create a connected and operationally usable intelligence environment for Australian businesses.
The partnership combines two highly complementary strengths.
Equifax
Contributes one of the country's most established and trusted commercial data ecosystems, alongside deep expertise in enterprise risk, analytics, and customer delivery.
mnAi
Contributes advanced capabilities across entity resolution, machine learning, ESG modelling, industry intelligence, and large-scale data engineering - enabling complex and fragmented information to be transformed into structured, auditable, and actionable insight.
Together, this creates a unique capability designed to support enterprise organisations as they respond to increasing regulatory expectations, climate-related risk exposure, sustainability requirements, and evolving stakeholder demands.
Our Mission
NCED was created to address a fundamental gap in the Australian market: the lack of consistent, scalable data infrastructure for climate and ESG risk assessment.
As mandatory climate reporting frameworks like AASB S2 come into effect, organisations need more than compliance - they need a foundation for ongoing risk management and decision-making.
NCED provides that foundation: a structured, auditable dataset covering 5M+ Australian entities.
NCED is a product of Equifax Australia, leveraging decades of experience in data management, entity resolution, and risk analytics.
We combine proprietary data assets with advanced analytical capabilities to deliver enterprise-grade climate and ESG intelligence.
Supporting APRA and Emerging Regulatory Expectations
NCED has been developed in alignment with the broader direction of climate and risk-related regulatory frameworks emerging across Australia and internationally.
This includes supporting organisations responding to guidance such as:
- Australian Prudential Regulation Authority Prudential Practice Guide CPG 229 (Climate Change Financial Risks)
- Mandatory climate-related financial disclosure requirements
- Sustainability and governance reporting obligations
- Broader enterprise risk management and operational resilience frameworks
In particular, APRA CPG 229 highlights the importance of organisations being able to identify, assess, monitor, and manage both physical and transition climate risks across their operations, counterparties, portfolios, and supply chains.
NCED has been designed to support these requirements by creating a structured intelligence layer capable of helping organisations:
What Makes NCED Different
NCED has been specifically developed to move beyond static datasets and disconnected reporting processes.
The platform combines a wide range of intelligence signals including:
By integrating these signals into a unified environment, organisations are able to create a far more connected understanding of risk than traditional point-in-time or manually maintained approaches allow.
The result is a scalable intelligence capability that supports not only reporting obligations, but also operational decision-making, portfolio management, customer understanding, and long-term strategic planning.
A Foundation for Better Risk Intelligence
As climate, ESG, and operational risk increasingly converge, organisations require infrastructure that can connect data, context, and intelligence in a way that is practical, transparent, and enterprise-ready.
NCED has been built to provide exactly that - helping organisations create more resilient, informed, and forward-looking approaches to understanding risk across the Australian economy.
Core Principles
Everything we build is guided by these principles.
Data-Led
Built on structured data, not assumptions or estimates.
Auditable
Transparent methodology for governance and compliance.
Scalable
Population-level coverage across 5M+ entities.
Consistent
Repeatable analysis across reporting cycles.
